All orthodontic technology, up to now, has focused on how we put forces on teeth with braces, wires, rubber bands, aligners, etc. However, tooth movement is based on how fast the bone remodels. With Propel, controlling the biological movement of teeth allows for more accurate, and accelerated, treatment. Doctors can strategically use Propel to target more problematic teeth and leave other teeth to be the “anchor teeth.”
Propel was developed at New York University School of Dentistry. The controlled clinical trial demonstrating a doubling of the rate of tooth movement was published in the American Journal of Orthodontic in November 2013.
